John Haberbush

Glass Art and Acrylic Painting

Equinox Glass Art is the inspiration of John Haberbush, a long-time resident of Ventura who is now retired in Tucson, Arizona. John retired from Federal Express in 2020, where he worked as a pilot for 25 years. While in High School and College John expressed himself artistically through oils, acrylics, water colors, sculpture and mobiles. Following a long hiatus from creating art while pursuing his career and other interests, John has found a niche in designing and creating original glass mosaics and stained glass.

While still very much interested in creating stained glass panels, John now mainly focuses on glass mosaics, which allow him to create more realistic pieces, achieving a level of detail that is very difficult if not impossible to obtain with stained glass. Currently his work focuses on colorful pieces inspired by the desert and it’s inhabitants.

John began his flying career while in High School when he began flying sailplanes. While in college he instructed at the Skylark Gliderport in Elsinore California where he met his wife of 41 years, Terry. After graduating college he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the Marines where he earned his wings and was assigned as one of the first pilots to fly the F/A-18 Hornet. John retired from the Marine Reserves in 2000 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from FedEx as a Boeing 777 captain flying international routes. He has also flown the Airbus 310, MD-10, MD-11, and Boeing 727, 737, 757, 767. An avid outdoor enthusiast and traveler, John is either on his bicycle, swimming laps in the pool, playing tennis, backpacking or scuba diving when not in his studio. He and his wife have one son, Christopher.
